Fujifilm has announced that it will introduce a premium Wide Conversion Lens
(WCL-X100) accessory for its award winning X100 digital camera, further enhancing its shooting versatility and performance.

Made in Japan, the Fujifilm WCL-X100 has been specifically designed to widen the field of view to 28mm (35mm equivalent) for the internationally acclaimed Fujifilm X100.

Superb Optical Quality

The Fujifilm WCL-X100 attaches directly on to the Fujifilm X100, increasing its image capture flexibility by converting the fixed focal length from 23mm (35mm equivalent) to a 19mm wide angle (35mm equivalent).

Its superb optical versatility delivers exceptional image quality even at the f/2 wide aperture setting, retaining all the original optical characteristics including the attractive bokeh effect.

Using four premium glass elements in three groups to keep aberrations to a minimum, the optical construction of the Fujifilm WCL-X100 employs the unique Fujinon Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating) for outstanding results.

Functionality

Achieving the best results from the Fujifilm WCL-X100 is simple:

Select the Wide Conversion Lens option in the Fujifilm X100 menu system - the camera must be updated to Firmware version 1.3.0 or later which allows the option to be selected via the Function (Fn) or RAW buttons.

2. The Fujifilm X100 will automatically apply image processing to shots captured using the WCL-X100 to reduce image distortion, ensuring balanced illumination across the frame and reduced chromatic aberration which can be commonly found in wide conversion lenses.

In practice, the Fujifilm WCL-X100 maintains the functionality of the Fujifilm X100 including the autofocusing speeds, the 10cm macro distance capability, as well as the extraordinary hybrid viewfinder. With the optical viewfinder (OVF) selected, icons showing the edge of the frame are displayed instead of the frame rim (equivalent to 80% of the frame field of view), while selecting the electronic viewfinder (EVF) gives users a 100% field of view.

Seamless Blend with the Fujifilm X100

The Fujifilm WCL-X100 uses the same materials, textures and colours as the Fujifilm X100, plus the optional LH-X100 lens hood and PRF-49S protective filter can be used on the conversion lens. Additionally, the clip-on lens cap for the WCL-X100 can be attached with both the lens hood and filter in place.

Fujifilm Senior Category Manager – Imaging, Daniel Paul, said the WCL-X100 is a premium accessory that will expand shooting opportunities and open up a range of new options for photographers, enabling them to achieve the best imaging results possible.

The Fujifilm WCL-X100 has a recommended retail price of $399.00 including GST. It is expected to be available in July 2012.
