New Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd digital camera puts people in perspective with its impressive Face Detection Technology

Fujifilm’s new digital SLR-style FinePix S6500fd stands out from the crowd with its ultra-fast proprietary Face Detection Technology, ultra-high ISO 3200 sensitivity, 6th Generation Super CCD and an acclaimed Fujinon 28-300mm zoom lens.

Fujifilm Senior Category Manager – Consumer & Professional Products, Matt Dole, said in a camera industry first Fujifilm has built LSI Face Detection into the processor of the FinePix S6500fd, spelling the end for frustrating missed photo opportunities.

“Fujifilm’s innovative Face Detection Technology knows to focus on the people in the photo and can also ensure they are properly exposed in order to capture no fuss stunning photos within 0.05 seconds,” Mr Dole said.

“Accommodating up to 10 faces in a frame, the FinePix S6500fd has the ability to identify them as the primary subjects and automatically optimises the settings for sharp, natural looking people pictures.

“Other outstanding features include a fixed Fujinon 28-300mm lens (10.7 x) with twist barrel zoom control, enabling precision adjustments to the focal length. From 28mm wide angle shots to telephoto shots up to 300mm, the single integrated lens does it all without the need to invest in several lenses. The fixed lens also protects the camera interior from dust.

“Equipped with 6.3 million pixels, the FinePix S6500fd has an ultra high ISO 100-3200 sensitivity for great photos even in low light or strong backlighting. When combined with the Face Detection Technology, it produces focused, natural-looking people pictures every time.

“Fujifilm’s Intelligent Flash system is also incorporated in the FinePix S6500fd to automatically determine flash power output and exposure. Similarly, the ‘Natural Light & Flash’ Dual Shot mode takes two shots in quick succession - one with flash and one without before displaying them side-by-side for on the spot comparison.

“With its High Speed Shooting Mode - complete with rapid focus and shutter lag of just 0.035 seconds - the FinePix S6500fd focuses on improving image detail, tonal quality and reducing noise.

“In addition to its 30 fps VGA movie mode, the zoom lens can also be used during recording. With 10MB of internal media storage, the FinePix S6500fd offers extended movie potential and also provides a valuable backup for capturing still images without the use of a media card.

“Other features include a 2.5-inch LCD screen with an incredible 235,000 pixel resolution; single, continuous and manual focus modes; Jpeg and RAW file formats; fourteen special-scene modes including Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Night, Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Museum and Party; manual, shutter, aperture-priority and program exposure modes; as well as PictBridge™ compatibility for direct printing without a PC,” Mr Dole said.

Accessories include a shoulder strap, USB and A/V cables, lens cap and hood, CD-Rom with FinePix Viewer (RAW File Converter included), ImageMixer VCD2 LE for FinePix and RAW File Converter LE.

The Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd is expected to have a recommended retail price of $629 including GST, and is available from October 2006.
